Malcolm X, Learning to Read

It’s very clearly to see that Malcolm X, could had been a classmate of Rose who just happen to fall in thru the cracks of society and ended up falling much further than Rose.  Malcolm X was a street thug a hustler convicted of robbery, who ended up in jail. Once in jail he tried to get his hustle on, but just couldn’t do it. Because there was a bigger Cat in jail, Bimbi. This frustrated Malcolm, and also because he couldn’t communicate with his mentor. Instead of just quitting and rolling over in his own urine, Malcolm did something. Malcolm starts to read anything he can get his hands on. Slowly Malcolm learns to read and communicate with his mentor Mr. Muhammad. He slowly realizes that history has been “whitened”.

Malcolm realizes how important it is to read, for it is the basis for intellect and perception. Without it the ability to read becomes increasingly difficult to view your own ethics. Just like Feross, Rose and Romero, he didn’t quit and strive to be his best. He had a goal, a vision, a life lesson in jail. Where best to have one. You got all the time to think it out.

He spent 7 years in prison, reading a dictionary; the commitment to do every day is incredible. Because of the circumstances and being in jail. He did become recognized, as an articulate and powerful leaders of the black America.
